Cryptorchidism means lack of one or both testicles within the scrotum in a 1 year old boy and is caused by the abnormalities in physiological testicle slide from abdominal cavity towards the scrotum. Typically the defect is diagnosed by pediatrics and treated by child surgeons or urologists. Such an approach gives the best opportunity to maintain all the generative and endocrine testicle function of the affected person. If the cryptorchidism is diagnosed by adults` urologist it is usually to late to get the proper spermatogenesis and even hormonal ability of the testicle and usually the testis should be removed due to the higher risk of cancer, although the bigger (closer to normal size) testis, the better chance to maintain hormonal function and urologist should think about saving the testicle and try to move the one to the scrotum. If undescended testicle is located at the groin, it is possible to diagnose it by the ultrasound, unfortunately when the testicle is not visible on USG neither is palpated, no other diagnostic means (CT, NMR) is better then the direct inner vision – laparoscopy. Additional yield of laparoscopy in this situation is the curative ability to remove the abdominal testicle.
